Update from Councillor Cathy Curry
I received information from the Arcadia Community Association that some deceased geese were found in the area of the Carp River Conversation Area near Lyndon Hooper Park. A reminder that it is very important that people avoid handling live or dead wild birds. If you see a wild bird, including waterfowl, that is sick, injured, or dead, do not touch it. Report any sick or dead birds (including waterfowl), to the Ontario Regional Centre of the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative at 1-866-673-4781 or online at cwhc.rcsf.ca.
I received emails from residents regarding unsanctioned fireworks going off in a park in the Ward, so I want to remind residents that fireworks are not to be used in public parks, and can only be discharged on private property on Victoria Day and Canada Day and the day before and after those days. Firecrackers are not allowed to be used anywhere or anytime in the city without a permit.
I have received emails from residents who are frustrated with the construction project at 1158 Old Second Line Road. Construction is loud, dusty, and disruptive. However, completing the Morgan’s Grant community will add many more homes for people who will love living there. It is hard for residents to remember that, indeed, the construction of their house created a lot of noise, mess and disruption for the neighbours who lived nearby at the time. We have been assured that the blasting required is almost complete. That’s good news!
I have also received emails from residents who were frustrated with the offramp closures late at night that were required for the Terry Fox overpass to be repaved. I can tell you that the number of emails I received regarding complaints regarding the disruption required to repave the overpass were far lower than the number of emails I received over many years begging to have the overpass repaved. I, for one, am enjoying the safer traverse over the Queensway now that the pavement is smooth and even.
