I got to do the thing I like the most about this job – teaching Grade 5 students about municipal government! (Maybe I should go back to teaching?) It was so much fun. I have to tell you, you should be very concerned right now because there is a good chance that you are not actually smarter than a fifth grader. These students were so smart, Naomi and I were in shock. Here is a sampling of the questions they asked me:
“How does the City’s Climate Change Master Plan align with the Term of Council Priority about climate change and climate resilience?”
“Are you aware that developers are trying to build houses on our greenspace?”
“You sound very busy. How do you have time for your family, your children, your friends and yourself?”
“What was the most difficult vote for you?”
“Instead of asking people to pay taxes, why don’t you just print money?”
“Why do we have inflation?”
However, the best question of all? “Can I have your autograph?” I felt like Sidney Crosby!
Actually, Kanata North, you can rest assured that the future is bright. I honestly cannot believe how smart and thoughtful and caring today’s 10-year-olds are in Kanata North. Great parenting and great teaching, clearly! Great work, everyone!
