Thanks to the efforts of MP Jenna Sudds in bringing our Kanata Lakes greenspace issues to a number of federal departments, last week, The Office of the Honourable Julie Dabrusin, Minister of the Environment, Climate Change and Nature, confirmed in a letter to a member of the KGPC that the following actions are being taken by their team in relation to the 7000 Campeau Drive file:
With respect to mercury entering waterways through runoff, Environment and Climate Change Canada’s Enforcement Branch has been notified and will follow up, as appropriate. This may include an inspection to verify compliance with any applicable federal legislation or a referral of the matter to the appropriate authorities.
With respect to flooding risks, this issue falls under the purview of Public Safety Canada. I am therefore forwarding your correspondence to the Office of the Honourable Eleanor Olszewski, Minister of Emergency Management and Community Resilience, for consideration.
