The Parkway Road Condition– We have had a few residents reach out to the Kanata North Office about The Parkway road condition next to the Earl of March Secondary School addition. The poor road condition is related to temporary reinstatement work following service connections to Earl of March. City staff have been working with the developer and the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, since March to improve the temporary repairs while awaiting permanent restoration. Although some minor repairs have been completed, final road work has not yet been scheduled. The school board has indicated that the repairs are now a priority, and recent site visits show curb work has begun, suggesting the permanent road repairs may follow soon. City staff will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
Carling Railway Track – Many drivers, myself included, are getting pretty tired of hearing our tires smash into the exposed rail track when crossing the railway tracks on March Road near Carling Avenue. Believe me, I have been back and forth on emails with City staff about this for many weeks trying to get updates on what is taking so long to get this fixed. Although the rail line is owned by the City, it is leased to Nylene for rail operations. Temporary repairs have been made in the past, but the crossing has continued to deteriorate and now requires a permanent repair. Nylene has advised that its contractor is targeting construction in August. The work will require temporary road closures.
Litter Concerns in Parks– A Beaverbrook resident (and volunteer youth soccer coach) recently reached out to share concerns about an increase in litter at Beaverbrook Park, particularly around the soccer fields near the John G. Mlacak Centre. It serves as a good reminder that our parks are shared community spaces, and everyone has a role to play in keeping them clean and welcoming. Whether you’re visiting a playground, enjoying a picnic, participating in a sports program, or attending a summer camp, please remember to dispose of garbage properly or take it with you if bins are full. Small actions, like picking up litter or encouraging children to do the same, help keep our parks safe, enjoyable, and beautiful for everyone.
