Thank you, Kanata North!!
The motion to clarify the City’s position on Kanata Lakes Golf and Country Club Lands passed, resoundingly!
Yesterday at Ottawa City Council, I brought forward a motion, seconded by Councillor Glen Gower, to clarify the City’s position on the Kanata Lakes Golf and Country Club lands. The motion can be read at Clarifying the City’s Position on Kanata Lakes Golf and Country Club Lands. When Council voted on the motion, the final count was 21-3 in favour of the motion. I would like to thank all of the councillors who supported this motion and the continued support from Council on this file. The councillors who voted against the motion were the Chair of the Environment and Climate Change Committee Councillor Shawn Menard, Councillor Jessica Bradley and Councillor Stéphanie Plante. (Councillor Steve Desroches was unable to attend the meeting.)
If you would like to watch the part of the Council meeting yesterday where the motion was discussed and voted on, you can view the Council discussion related to this item at Ottawa City Council from 4:11:02-5:14:30.
A huge thank you to all concerned residents who took the time to send supportive letters and emails to my Council colleagues—almost 300 messages in total at last count! I truly appreciated that your letters to councillors were personally written and were not form letters. That matters significantly and many of my colleagues told me how much they appreciated really understanding what individual residents thought and how they felt, personally.
As you know, there will be a lot more to come on this. But, at least, staff have been given clear direction. It is my sincere hope that, as Mayor Marianne Wilkinson tried to do back in the 1980s with the drafting of the 40% agreement, we will come to a win-win outcome. I will continue to keep residents updated as things progress. Thank you again for your ongoing support.
