Please note, our office received the following blasting notice for the Earl Grey Drive extension project.
R.W. Tomlinson & M-Roc are going to be doing some blasting work in the trench between the MTO and Dymon Storage to facilitate the installation of new storm sewers below the existing rock elevation.
The work involves excavation to the rock surface, dewatering, drilling holes for the blast charges and detonating the explosive. The contractor is required to take all necessary measures to protect adjacent infrastructures and properties. As such, the rock surfaces will be covered with heavy blasting mats to prevent the airborne transmission of rock debris. Vibration monitoring will take place to monitor and record vibration levels to ensure compliance with applicable guidelines and regulations and to alleviate the possibility of damage to nearby infrastructures and properties.
Prior to each blast, the blast site will be cleared of all persons and secured. This will be followed by a series of warning whistles that will be sounded to alert all persons in the vicinity:
- Five short whistles – One minute to blast
- Three short whistles – Blast is imminent
- One long whistle – Blast is all clear
Blasting is currently scheduled to begin the week of November 24, 2025, and will last a period of approximately four weeks. Blasting will be conducted Monday through Friday.
The location of blasting will occur in the undeveloped open area between Didsbury Road West and Didsbury Road East and just north of the Ministry of Transportation works yard.
