I have spent a lot of time explaining the history of the 40% agreement to people who were unfamiliar with what the whole issue was about. I decided it might be easier to create a video and put it up for anyone to watch. Please take the time to watch it. As well, feel free to send it on to people who want to learn more about it. You can watch the video at Kanata North Greenspace Background.
If, after watching the video, you want to send it on to decision makers who might not understand the history, here are some handy email addresses!

Letter from Mayor Sutcliffe to Premier Ford and Minister Rob Flack
As per the motion passed at Council recently, Mayor Sutcliffe was to write to the Premier and the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing. Here is the letter he sent.

Dear Premier,
The City of Ottawa is keenly aware of your willingness and efforts to find solutions to ensure the preservation of the Kanata Lakes Golf Course Lands as community greenspace.
We appreciate all your conversations with Kanata Lakes residents and myself, as well as public statements you have made supporting residents and Councillor Curry in their endeavor to preserve this important greenspace in their community. Your support matters a lot to them, and they have shared that with me on multiple occasions.
As you will recall, the original agreement these residents signed with the developer was supposed to preserve 40% of the lands as greenspace. Many of them moved to this neighborhood for that reason, only to be deceived down the road.
In the spirit of finding solutions, please be advised that Ottawa City Council, at its meeting of July 15, 2026, considered and approved the following Motion. We believe this provides a series of options we encourage the Province to productively consider to achieve this goal.
My officials and I remain available to continue discussions regarding this file.
Thanks again for your ongoing and unwavering support, Premier Ford.
Sincerely,
Mark Sutcliffe
Mayor
City of Ottawa
