The 100 Steacie Drive application is in the final approval stages of both the Site Plan Application as well as the Building Permit Application. We have signed or are about to sign agreements that allow us to work in and around the existing Hydro One transmission corridor as well as the City-owned rail line.
We have been working with Hydro Ottawa to bring electricity to the site and with Enbridge to bring natural gas to the site. We will also need to upgrade the watermain along Station Road so that we have enough water pressure.
We are expecting to begin construction later this summer or early this fall. The initial effort will focus on excavation for the underground parking structure which should take 3-4 months from when we start excavation to being done. Once excavation is complete, we have another 3-4 months to pour the concrete foundation and 1 level underground parking garage.
This will be the portion of work that will see the most truck traffic on Steacie Drive. We are sensitive to the impacts to the community here and we will regularly monitor the condition of the nearby roads for cleanliness and safety of truck movements on the public streets. Our contracts are to include regular street sweeping and dust suppression (water spraying) as needed.
As the building itself is wood framed (with the exception of the parking garage), once the excavation and concrete work is complete, the number of heavy truck trips to site should be significantly reduced as we will only be expecting material deliveries and not rows of concrete trucks.
Once we have an excavation start date, we will inform the Councillor’s office.
