As Hydro Ottawa is looking to increase its capacity for energy production in the City, they are looking at two projects in Kanata North for the construction of a solar generation facility. This facility would be situated on three parcels of land within Kanata North area, specifically 940 Klondike Road, 375 March Valley Road, and 915 Klondike Road. There will be a virtual community information session held on Monday, August 25 at 7:00 pm. Residents can register for the session and learn more about the proposed projects at Major Projects – Portage Power.
Residents are also able to learn more about some background on why this project has been proposed at Independent Electricity Service Operator (IESO) Long Term 2 (LT2) Procurement Process | Engage Ottawa. The Province, through the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), is currently engaged in the next phase of its energy procurement process, known as the Long-Term 2 Request for Proposal. The LT2 RFP represents the largest competitive energy procurement in the province’s history, focused on generating affordable electricity. Specifically, the LT2 RFP aims to secure reliable electricity supply that responds to Ontario’s energy needs emerging in 2029-2030.
