Update from Councillor Cathy Curry
STOP signs– I continue to hear concerns from residents about drivers not coming to a complete stop at stop signs. This is an ongoing safety issue that puts pedestrians, cyclists, and other drivers at risk—especially in busy neighbourhood areas and near schools. Please remember to come to a full stop and remind younger drivers in your house to do that, too.
Contractors Starting Early– I have heard some complaints about this on the golf course lands, but this is also some good information to know in general with construction all over the ward. A reminder that it is a violation for construction work or heavy machinery to operate in or near structures, highways, or buildings during the following hours:
- Monday to Saturday: before 7 am and after 10 pm
- Sunday and statutory holidays: before 9 am and after 10 pm
Demolition, construction, and infill projects, such as building new homes or buildings on empty lots or in established residential neighbourhoods are restricted during certain hours. This work is not permitted during the following hours:
- Monday to Saturday: before 7 am and after 8 pm
- Sunday and statutory holidays: before 9 am and after 10 pm
If you find this is happening, you can call 3-1-1, or report online at Report an issue with construction site noise · City of Ottawa.
Garbage and Recycling Calendar Confusion – With the changeover to the provincial recycling program, the calendar pick-up dates changed for some households. Your City Councillor put her recycling out on the wrong day with the wrong bin two weeks in a row! Know you are not alone if you, too, did this. If you have any confusion regarding which day is your pick-up day or what week we are on for which bin, please give us a call or email us and we can help…well, Naomi, Sheila, Nick or Peter can help. Don’t rely on me!
