Update from Councillor Cathy Curry
Queensway traffic- My inbox and voicemail were full of messages from very frustrated residents given the traffic jams on the 417 recently. We sent individual messages to residents on this, but if you scroll down further in this newsletter, there is a more fulsome explanation. Suffice it to say, there were legitimate reasons for the lane closures, but there was a failure to coordinate, communicate and to fully understand the impact of having multiple projects taking place at the same time in the same location. The outcome was beyond frustrating. Mayor Sutcliffe and City staff stepped in to ensure that changes were made to modify the work to mitigate the impacts. Please scroll down to read the full description of what was going on.
Kanata Lakes Golf Course Lands grass– I am receiving a lot of complaints about the grass on the golf course lands being long. Please know, this has been flagged with the City and the City’s Vacant Property Officer has been assigned for proactive monitoring.
Errant golf balls- This is just a reminder that the Kanata Lakes Golf Course land is private. We continue to get reports of people golfing, errant balls breaking windows, and people being hit while sitting on their decks. Please be sure to follow the rules associated with private lands.
Bus Rapid Transit- March Road Resurfacing– I have also received concerns from residents about the condition of sections of March Road. The City held both in person and virtual consultation events, and you can view all information about the project at Kanata North Transitway | City of Ottawa.
I have also received some complaints about sections of March Road. Because there is this major project planned, we understand from City staff that they are reluctant to redo large sections of March Road noting there is such a large project on the horizon. We are still in contact with staff about this.
Newsletters that are truncated or don’t show the photos– I have received emails where people have been confused about parts of the newsletter that are missing. Please note that some email providers, including Gmail, may truncate longer emails (such as my community newsletter) or hide images and content. If the message appears cut off, look for a link or prompt such as “View entire message” or “Show trimmed content” at the bottom of the email to view the full version of my newsletter, including all photos and attachments.
Seniors’ Centre Parking Lot– I was glad to see earlier this week that work was underway in the parking lot of the Seniors’ Centre to address the potholes. I’ve heard from a number of residents about the condition of the lot and have experienced it myself, so it was encouraging to see repairs being made. I’m hopeful that this work will provide a sufficient and lasting solution for everyone using the facility.
