Update from Councillor Cathy Curry

I’ve heard from many residents about an increase in coyote sightings on the golf course lands. The City’s Wildlife Resource Coordinator, Dom Ferland, visited the golf course with a member of Coyote Watch Canada. He shared their observations which I wanted to pass along. Even if you don’t live on the golf course lands, please take the time to read the related information regarding coyote sightings here.

I received many emails in support of the solar project planned for Kanata North. As I have written about in past newsletters, getting more energy into our electrical grid is important for many reasons. The combined efforts of Hydro Ottawa and the IESO will see more power coming to Ottawa. This is good news for residents and for business.

I have received emails from residents regarding graffiti in various areas of Kanata North. Remember, if you see graffiti, quickly report it to 311. City staff respond quickly to graffiti and remove it right away. Your quick reports, with the specific locations, help City staff keep Kanata North graffiti free.

I have also received many resident reports regarding our Kanata North speed boards that are not working. Thank you for letting us know. Sometimes it is due to a lack of sunlight that week, but sometimes it is a more significant problem. The one on Terry Fox Drive and the one on Old Second Line Road are now back up and running. Thank you to City staff for getting those repaired.

A reminder to residents to report any illegal dumping of garbage. We have not had a lot of this, but when it is reported right away, there is a better chance that staff can determine the owner. Again, 311 is the fastest way to report the garbage. Please be sure to give the exact location.
